1.0 Housing
well wmiller was here a while back to help me with my sick truck. all has been well since except for what he pointed out that i never noticed. my turbo housing is cracked clean through where it bolts up at the bottom. my solution is to get a 1.0 housing. but here's my ques. how much diff is there between these and the 1.15? i know the spool is faster but will i here it at idle more and will it effect boost at higher rpm's?

i want to get it but the problem is i dont have guages yet. bu i need to do somethin soon because of the crack in the old housing. so i just want to get a few honest opinions on which to order so i aint wastin my money

since your looking at bigger injectors down the road i'de consider staying witha stock housing becuase when you start throwing more fuel boost can get a little out of controle if i remember right

true i mean i could always get mine welded if possible. when i get outta college and get a better job is when the fun stuff will come

arent the housings cast? you're not really supposed to weld cast, but you can. It'll be weaker, and most likely will distort to some extent. I'd probably stick with 1.15. with mods below, i can hit 1100 pushing it hard with a small trailer.

I watched a guy braze a exhaust manifold once, I think it is still working. He used a cutting wheel and V shaped the crack first to clean it out good before brazing. That might get you by until the big bucks start rolling in!

If you plan on just a chip then a 1.0 is fine. Bigger injectors (1's or 2's) and you will want to keep the stocker. Anything bigger than 1's a different turbo is an option as well but more $$$. You will be able to find a stock housing cheap more than likely.
I ran the 1.0 with the AD's and had pretty high temps. I went back to the stocker and temps dropped and boost numbers stayed the same.

I agree with TJ, I ran a 1.0 with 2's and you can run the temps up real fast. The stock housing keeps them down better, but you can still run them up.
Cast can be welded by someone that knows what they are doing, you have to have the crack clean and keep the temps while welding, they make heat sinks for this (it absorbs the heat from the metal being welded). I have welded everything from water pumps to engine blocks.
Check with a machine or welding shop, one of these should have or know someone that can weld cast. This will be alot cheaper than a new housing.

ok. thank you all. i am going to Wyotech for light duty diesel (pick ups), heavy duty (semis), and caterpillar engines. This starts in summer of 2010. I'm going to take a year off once i get outta high school to rack up a little change. then hopefully can get a good job at a dealer or somethin makin $40/hr plus. Thats when the PMS will really sink in lol. Thanks again guys for the info. yall just prevented me from wastin money in the long run

It's none of my business but there is high percentage of people who take a year off never make it to school. There is good intentions at first but then you get lost in the system and accumalate to many toys etc etc that starts to own you. I'm of the opinion its better to go into debt for school and it will pay it off in the long. Sorry, I just had to say that, its only my humble opinion.
