engine runs rough

engine runs rough
have a 1987 ford 250, starts up and idles fine, if i ride it slow and easy runs fine, but if i want to accelerate and or go faster, the engine runs "rough". it like it stuttering almost! didnt know if there were any suggestions! thanks for your time................wflynn2@student.fsc.edu

sounds like it's either starving for fuel or a missfire... a pluged fuel filters or bad fuel pumps can cause what you describe(fuel starvation) as well as a bad plug, wire, or cap and rotor(miss fire).... its hard to describe the diference between the two... I'd know right away if I drove it...lol. is your truck fuel injected... can't remember when they changed over

can you give us some more info like does it actup more going up a hill? does it feel like its running out of gas?

most of the time when people have complaints like yours it's an ignition problem... a fuel problem like a bad fuel pump or filter will more often feel like your running outa gas. Ignition problems give you a studering symptom or shaking...
