metal on metal sound

i have a 98 expy 4x4 and from the left front wheel is a loud metal on metal sound. sounds like the squealers on brake pads. i replaced the brakes, removed the backing plate and there seems to be no play in the wheel like a bad bearing. anything else to check, im out of ideas

It's probably the hub/bearing assembly.
