time for a new long block

i ended up cracking a piston in my truck and found a new (refurbed) long block for the same price as a rebuild so going that route. 4 of my injectors i put new o rings on right before i cracked the piston.the truck neve ran with the new o rings but the injectors were installed. can i use them in the new long block when i put the injectors in? trying to sell off my old motor in the classifieds try to get some money back from this sintuation lol. but i guess its all part of gaining experience. o also can i bring my PCM top the dealer.... nopt in the truck for them to reflash it? that may be a stupid question but i dont know the answer.

Chit, that is low mileage for an engine failure. I doubt the dealer will reflash a PCM unless it is in a truck as I am pretty sure they use the OBD port for that. Might want to call and check. I know Jody can do it though.

How did you hydraulically lock it? Engine running, or just cranking over? Have you torn it apart and actually seen a cracked piston, or are you speculating?

I got scared of hydro-locking mine, so i went and took the heads off, and drilled drainage holes in all 8 pistons just in case....

I must have knocked something though, cause it seems to be running funny now...

Sometimes when you get a thought, instead of hitting reply, just let it go.

He pulled the head and said the piston was just about cracked in half.

Aw, come on, Kris. This is a holiday weekend. Let's have a little fun.

Park, I wouldn't doubt that someone has actually done that. As you know, truth is stranger than fiction.

Hydro lock is when there is liquid in the cylinder and as the piston comes to TDC with the valves closed, the piston tries to compress the liquid. Since it can't, something has to give and in this case it was the piston. Many times it is the rod bending.

Thanks Mark. I assumed that from the posts but I had never heard the term.

yea i pulled the head.the thing is split in half but im not sure about the rod being bent.originaly i didnt think it was getting to TDC but i think the piston wrist pin actually gave and not the rod.

The rod would probably not bend, as a PMR would sooner shatter instead of break. Its like trying to bend an aspirin, it would break before it bent. If you want to check, put a straight edge on the fire deck, and rotate the engine until that cylinder comes to TDC. It should lift the straight edge up a small amount, usually .030 or less. The piston actually protrudes from the block.
