Can anyone give me some insight as to why my 1995 f150 might decide to all of a suddon reverse the timing when i put trans in gear and step on the gas? would work well if it were supercharged. when idling in park, i hit the throttle it spikes to 10*atc then back too 15-25*btc, timing stays normal. when i put it in gear, brakes on wheels chocked, and i rev up the engine, the eec retards the timing and keeps it there! wtf?
Your harmonic balancer may have slipped which will simply give the appearance of the timing being retarded by the EEC. A less likely explanation - if the knock sensor is bad, the EEC might constantly think your engine is pinging and will retard the timing. However my money is on a slipped balancer.
nope, balancer was checked during the rebuild its dead on. something electrical? just cant put my finger on it. getting code 212? and the "you got a chip" code. need to know what the orange wire in the back grounded to the engine is/where it goes. cant find it in the schematics. the EEC is retarding the timing like it should be advancing it. unplug knock sensor and no change.
That is normal. It keeps it way advanced at an idle for emissions My 88 Mustang does it and my 01 F150 5.4L did it. I watched it on my Diablosport Predator. Start off around 24 advanced and would drop to around 10 or 11 under load.
ya , but thats 10*-11* btdc this thing is going 10*-20*atdc. i take off, i cuh-putt-putt down the road. crank the timing up and pull the spout it runs good!

is that with the ign set to zero? my camshaft is set 4* adv I dont think this would have any effect on the ign timing going wacky. truck wont live this way! timing is supposed to advance not retard! is this way of ford limiting the power output?
The cam being advanced should have no bearing on the ignition advance.
I wonder if the TPS sensor is bad and sending bad info to the ecm?
Perhaps unhook the TPS and see what the timing does.
