carb spacer

I have a 76 ford f150 360/2bbl/c6 combo. I took the carb off for a rebuild and the carb spacer with egr just crumbled into about 3 pieces. I have scoured the local yards without finding one exactly like it. There is one listed on ebay for a 351m it looks the same from what I can tell from the picture. Anyone know if these things are relatively interchangeable? Any info is appreciated, I really need to get the truck up and running and the carb spacer is the missing piece to the puzzle.

Thanks, Mike

I am really sorry to hear you are in this situation because it is a huge pain. These things burn out very easily, espeically the first generation which were made out of aluminum and not cast iron.

Unfortunately, Ford used a very large variety of spacer and intake combinations. The EGR crossover passage in the intake manifold where it fills the spacer cavity was in a variety of locations over the years. It's hard to find a correct replacement.

If the one that you're looking at online looks similar, it might be worthwhile to look up gaskets at the parts store for your spacer plate and his spacer plate and see if they match. If they do, more power to you and you got lucky. But I'd tend to doubt it'd work.

There is a member here named NumberDummy that has the ability to look up part numbers and find Ford dealers that still carry the number. If you can find a part number on what's left of the spacer, he'd be able to tell you if any dealers still have one lying around. Or he might be able to find the number for you based on your vehicle info.

Otherwise, you might keep looking and get lucky, or alternatively, you could install a phenolic spacer and tune the engine to compensate for the loss of EGR. You could try and find a non-EGR intake as well. This happened to me on my truck, but I was upgrading to a 4 barrel intake anyway so I didn't bother finding a new spacer plate. EGR is one of those things that it's best to leave it as-is, but when you're in a serious bind like yourself, sometimes it's best to do away with. Unless you can get a new spacer plate.

Thanks for the info. I will try to find a part number and try to go that route.
Thanks, Mike

I agree NumberDummy is a very good source of info. The thing that came to my mind was Sanderson Ford in Phoenix has a large selection of older stuff. Or at least they use to. There is also a Ford dealer back east that I can't remember the name also a good source of older stuff. PM NumberDummy he is the parts guy here. He is good.
