Has this AMT model been done for real?

Seen these dozens of times, but never really looked. Didn't ever notice the fins or the grill. Was this based on a real custom or just a model? And did anyone ever do the fins?

That is pretty cool! I have never really seen any die cast, models or anything for the 61-66 Ford pickups. I would love to have a model of a 65, so I could paint it up like my real 65.

You could get a 65 F100 Styleside replica 1:18 scale
also a 65 Custom Cab 1:18 scale
These are available through AUTOKRAFTERS

The 1:18 model is excellent.
The AMT kits could be built stock or custom. The parts to do both are included. Finding an unbuilt one will cost you dearly, as the 'collectors' drive the prices up. What I always did was try to find (poorly) built ones as they usually don't sell for much. You can strip the paint of with EZ OFF oven cleaner and rebuild. Most important thing is to get them with all the parts and have the chrome in decent shape. If the chrome is bad, the part can be covered with a product called Bare Metal Foil. It's a very thin, adhesive backed foil that does a great job on window moldings, side moldings, etc and can be used on bumpers and grilles in a pinch.

Besides the F100 model kit itself, there's also a built by AMT "Gold" model, these were mounted in shadowboxes and given out as awards to dealers by FoMoCo.

AMT made all of Ford's promo models. These were given away free by dealers to buyers of new cars. There were dozens of different models (mostly cars) given away beginning in 1948.

There are several different "models" of Slicks that show up on e-bay quite frequently. Some are banks, toys, or showroom display models. All with varying degrees of accuracy. I think this is the only type of real put-together model I have seen.

Current Examples:
Toy
Bank
AMTmodel-built
Diecast

Nylant made a steel version for U-Haul, it's a 1965 Styleside.

Good luck finding it..I've seen exactly one.

Nylant also made a 1965 Econoline pickup for U-Haul.

Actually it is a 65 cab and grill with a 57 to 60 bed. Nylint didn't tool up a new bed either... I have the set of U Hauls truck and trailer waiting for a restoration

I recently saw a 65 Nylint UHaul big truck...modo size moving van...in its box...I was peeved I missed its ending...the show side looked great...the inward side wasnt perfect though...but complete ...

I have also seen the p/u with trailer too...I wonder if I were to go down a lil south of me if they would have any of them originals since its the birthplace of UHaul...actually, I think BBF390 is closer then I...
