HOT Caliper

Hi guys I was washing my truck in front of the house after i drove home from work.(6 miles) When water got on the right rear caliper it started to steam. I was told that the caliper is sticking and it need to be replaced. I have not had truck checked out yet I wanted to know how could I check the caliper to see whats wrong. Thanks

is that the only one that did it? its normal for you brakes to get very hot. i mean, they are stopping 8000lbs going 60 mph over and over again.

Be sure and check your pads and rotor thickness/warpage as a sticking caliper can affect this as well.

I would pull the caliper and regrease the the slide pins first , see if that fixes the problem. If not, yeah replace the caliper. Depending on how long its been sticking you may need to replace pads.

Ditto on checking the pads. The rears aren't as likely to warp the rotor from a stuck caliper, but it can happen.

A good rule of thumb is every time you rotate your tires, clean and regrease the sliders. The 10 minutes per wheel extra time will save you hundreds of dollars in brake parts later.

This is one of the reasons I HATE sliding calipers. Give me a good set of fixed calipers and I'd be a happy guy. Too bad there isn't a replacement kit for the Ex
