Hi, this is my first post to this forum. I am going to have to do a rebuild on my engine soon (91 351W). Before I do so, I want to gather as much information as possible on possible upgrades, etc.
I have read that I can convert my system to MAF, Is this possible on this engine? If so, I should then be able to change other components (cam, intake, exhaust, etc), correct?
If this is correct, I would like to convert to MAF and get some run time on the vehicle before I make the other changes.
well, as for the maf conversion, ford racing offers a kit for 87-94 f150s with 351 windsor(not lightning, and aod auto only) under part num m-9000-t51. as for mods, this should allow you to get the full potential out of a cam, intake, whatever swap you want. hope this helps. but i would suggest you pick up a ford racing catalog and possibly call their tech line to see if anything else is involved. good luck.

I think you can change pretty much everything except the cam on speed density. With the MAF you can change the cam plus it is more efficient with Hp and Mpg. I looked into this setup for my '88 F-250 and I found that Auburn Performance sells the same thing that Ford does but a lot less. I think through them it was around $500.00 that is the sensor, wiring harness, different tube (or air box), and processor.
I did the MAF conversion to my Bronco, among other things.
MAF is better than speed density. It is a pre-event calibration, while the speed density is a post throttle event calibration. Without relying on the MAP sensor, you can put anything that reduces manifold vacuum you want (i.e. a BIG cam).
Motorsport kit is complete. Good instructions, easy to follow. Fairly easy swap ~4 hrs.
Biggest drawback is that the EEC module needs to be recalibrated if you go with larger MAF sensor, and injectors.
