Cracked transmission case?

Cracked transmission case?

I noticed a vibration that got exponentially worse over a day and put it on the lift and the bellhousing is cracked from about the 10 o'clock to 6 o'clock position...fun fun...now, what caused it? I am going to get a used transmission rebuilt by a local shop and hopefully that will last me another 200k, I just want to know if it was an imbalance that caused it or a bearing...the temps never got over 170 since I installed the converter, cooler, vb, and gauge 12k ago...but they most likely did before that. I will be checking the flexplate when I pull the trans.
What years/vehicles have the same transmission?
Whaday'all think?

A cracked case/bellhousing is usually a driveshaft vibration or a bad transmission mount.

It's hard to say since you didn't mention what vehicle you are working on or what kind of tranny you have.

Hmm, thought this place had a signature...oh well, here it is.
Early 1999 PSD 4x4 Auto 220k Superchips Max Tuner, 99.5 PCM, 4" exhaust, 6637, shimmed FPR, CCV, gauges, Harpoon & Hutch mods, 03 headlights, all the bypass filters, Factorytech vb and tc, tru-cool cooler, Warn hubs
Driveshaft imbalance...I replaced all u-joints, the front flange, and the u-joint "barrel" that holds two of them 10k ago, should it have been rebalanced?

You get to have a sig after you reach a certain post count, not sure what it is but it's not very many 10-30 I think.

Not sure about your tranny, but getting your shafts rebalanced after replacing all that stuff sounds like a good idea.
