Excursion Message Center

I recently bought a 03 4x4 Excursion and the only interior part that does not work is the Message Center in the front of the overhead console.

I checked with my local Ford dealer $177.00 for a new one.

It is not a huge deal that it does not work, but it kinda drives me nuts.

The cheapest I have found it is Direct Ford Parts, $143, not including shipping.

Part #3C7Z10D898AA

I do not have a lot of late model junk yards near me.
Any suggestions?

WOW that price acually sounds pretty resonable for that part. I need the rear door lock acuator and mechanism and was told by the local shop that parts alone will run up to 300 bucks. Tax season is coming up can you stay sane untill then? I can't find a junk yard with an X within a 100 mile radius so good luck on finding something that way. Sorry I know I wasn't any help but best of luck to you and welcome to the forum you will find alot of info in here.

Have you confirmed its actually the message center itself that has died and not something simple like a short in the power feed or a bad fuse ? The price doesn't sound bad but a fella would hate to change a part thats good. I understand why it would bug you though; I hate having something that does not do what it's suppose to; makes showing off to my friends hard .

I replaced the door lock mechanism that locks the rear hatch with a dealer replacement. I don't remember the exact price, but I'm pretty certain that it was under $75. You may want to get a quote from a different dealer.

I checked the fuses, all good. I pulled the plug apart in the console and it has one power to it. I was wondering if it should have more than one power to it? The "Mode" and "E/M" buttons light up when the lights are on.

I need the automatic door lock actuator and the latch relase assebly because it is frozen which made the actuator go bad. And that was not a dealer just the local shop my friend works at.

I am starting to have the same or similar issue.

It started with the edges slowly fading out. A tap on the display would bring it back to full brightness.

After a time it would occasionally go totaly dark. A slightly harder tap would bring it back, Sometimes to full brightness, sometimes with the edges fading out.

Lately it is becoming harder to bring it back.

I suspect a cracked solder joint or loose plug behind the display.

How do I remove it to see?

Do a search in the Super Duty forum. A well known problem with the overhead display is some of the resistors coming loose. There is a very good write-up with instructions on how to fix it.

Dan, I have taken mine down, it is a 2003 limited, I think it is the same. It is just clipped in. Basically, you just pull it straight down towards the floor. I started pulling on the winshield end, work your fingers under the consoles rim and it should pop that end out, mine started to pivot downward, but the rear is clipped in the same way and pulls downward.

No screws to take out first then. Great. Thanks

Dan, Thanks for the links, they helped a bunch. I fixed mine tonight, took about an hour. I had one of the 620 resistors coming loose. I went ahead and put solder on all of them. Plugged it in seems to be working.

Talking Excursion Parts Galore priced really reasonable

I have found a place in Oklahoma that does all kinds of things with Exursions and they have lots of used parts. I called a dealer about message center replacement and they quoted me $168.00 for it. I contacted this place and got it for $30.00 and they ship it to you. You pay for the part and shipping and handling. My total was $40.00 for a part that the dealer wanted $168.00 for.

Their name and adress is as follows:

4514 S. Division St.
