Non K&N Filter on K&N neck?

Non K&N Filter on K&N neck?
Ok, I'm picking up a 2002 X with a K&N filter

My question, could I pull the K&N filter, leave the neck on and replace the K&N filter with high flow paper filter? Could I take advantage of the K&N neck/airflow design and not risk dusting my engine?
Are one of these filters an option?
