last timne i drove around with the doors locked was when I was traveling through the ghetto of chicago (looking for the u of c hospital) and a nice lady screamed "get back here you white MF'er!! as I drove through her neighborhood, i thought, its tie to lock the doors. This was also at about 8pm
I don't lock it when I park it either. Someone wants something inside it that desperately they are only going to kick the window in to get it... I would rather save them (and more importantly, me) the trouble.
My 250 has the annoying feature of locking the doors when you turn on the ignition, so often they're locked. It's a PIA as every time I go to get something out of the passenger side, that darn thing is locked. I keep meaning to figure out how to disable that, but it never makes it to the top of the list.
But by choice I almost never lock the doors - except as nitramjr said, when we're down in the "big city"...

Reason: typo
Always.....Even though I'm big, mean, motivated, and always armed.....I'll avoid having to shoot some silly-a$$ carjacker who made the mistake of picking MY car if at all possible......Too much paperwork and hassle......
I lock my doors most of the time when in public and at home (doesn't fit in the garage), but not when I'm on a jobsite. I only lock them to deter those who might do a quick-grab but aren't bold enough to smash the window to get something.
Not if I have Cujo with me...60 pounds of snarling Chow...who does not take kind to strangers...she likes the taste of fresh blood!!! Be afraid...be very afraid!!!
I always lock mine from my first days of driving. It is automatic in my mind, like buckling up. It is more for saftey in a crash at least from old drivers ed training.
I love to drive around with the windows open though. I have never felt threatened while driving around but then I am 6'4 and to far over 200# so most people don't mess with me. I even used to regularly drive thru Watts and South Central, never had any problems but then I usually wasn't around late at night.
My new car does auto locking so no choice there. Doesn't bother me since I would do it anyway.
