Parking brake pedle to the floor

On my 05, when I set the parking brake, the PB pedle goes all the way to the floor. Is this normal? It's been like this for a while and still seems to lock the brakes, but doesn't feel right to me.
Is there an adjustment or something that I should know about?

olfordsnstone,

Here is the write-up for the adjustment of the e-brake:
Tightening the Parking Brake:
post by SmokeyWren on TDS

The parking brake is an old-fashioned drum brake up inside the rear rotors. It's called a "drum-in-hat" rotor.

The only adjustment available is to adjust the drum brake shoes.

Look on the back side of the hub and you'll see a rubber plug. Remove that plug and look inside and you'll see the "star adjuster wheel". Turn that star adjuster until it's tight, then back off only until the wheel will rotate freely.

Shadetree mechanics can "get by" using a flat-blade screwdriver to turn the star adjuster. But it's fairly easy to do with a special brake adjusting tool - available for only a couple of bucks from almost any auto parts store.

Here are the words from the workshop manual:

Quote:
Parking Brake Shoe and Lining Adjustment
• Raise and support the vehicle.
• Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
• Remove the brake adjusting hole cover from the backing plate.
• Turn the brake adjuster screw to expand the parking brake shoe and linings until they drag against the drum-in-hat rotor.
• Back off the brake adjuster screw until no drag is evident.

Hey thanks for the reply. I would of thought that the adjustment was up under the dash, or in the cable system somewhere. I also would have thought that it somehow closed the calipers, not that it had a drum in the rotor. I believe that my 68 vette has that same "drum in hat" type of system.
I have a brake adjustment tool in my tool box, and I know how to use it, now that I know it's just a simple drum brake adjustment.
Rep coming...

If the E-brake pedal goes to the floor, there are two other possibilities why.

The E-brake ratchet may be broken.

The front E-brake cable (2853) runs from the control to an equalizer bar (2A602) and adjuster where the R/L rear E-brake cables (2A635) meet. This is where you take up the slack in the cables.

The friction material might have come unglued from the shoe--if so, needs to be replaced.
