hello fellow forders,
I have a 2001 ford f350 super duty lariot with a 7.3 liter mtr. I bought the truck a few months ago with only 52,000 on her , alls great. could hear the tubo charger whine and lots of power. Well i have put a few thousand miles on it and rarely ever do i have a need to use the turbo , I drive it like a baby , back and forth to work truck. Now I wanted to see if it still worked , iromped on it and never fellt or heard the charger engage. Since I never used it for a extended period of time did it somehow gum up , clog up or just decide it had enough>? any ideas to get her boosting again , wont be easy on her anymore i promise.....
It's time to start saving for some gauges. You'll need BOOST, PYROMETER (Exhaust Gas Temp), and TRANS temp. You'll be able to see how much boost in psi it's making and whether it's up to snuff. What you hear is largely a function of what type of air filter you are running.
Lurk around the 99-03 PSD forum for lots and lots of info on your truck.
If you are driving your truck, your TURBO is working. On a stock truck you will not hear the turbo while driving like you said you are driving. You are in the right place to find out about your truck.
If you want to hear the turbo, get a 6637 air filter. But there more than likely nothing wrong with your turbo.
hey rick,
I guess the turbo is working. But I never hear it , falls on its *** untill the rpms get up there then feel something. When I bought the truck , twenty thou miles ago , the turbo charger heard like a jet when ya got into it and all kinds of low end rpm power as well. the charger is a garett , is that a stock one.
well i tell ya diesel engines or made the run and work. Check your air filter or replace it then put the truck on the road. Take a 300 mile or so trip in it towing something. These trucks really arent designed to be babied
I have checked the air cleaner and is good. I have been looking for air leaks in the turbo hoses. I took a can of carb cleaner and while running sprayed all clamps etc. It did not raise in rpm at all anywhere so I think its leak free. This morning I did notice shortly after I started it I got in and left for a drive I did not really give it its normal 10 minute warm up as I allways do. I turned the corner and gave it alot of gas and there was the turbo again , hmmm. After the motor warmed up good I did the same with no turbo response , Now what? Is this a sign of a hose getting warm and a pin hole opening or what?

Reason: miss spelling
Me again,
What is a symptom of the low or high pressure pump going bad? My truck used to pour out black smoke when ya got on it and now notta , this a symptom?
