I just dropped the pan and added 4 quarts of Walmart regular Mercon ATF instead of Mercon V by mistake. Have gently driven 30 miles with no problem.
Aerostar 1997 4.0 motor AWD tranny is 5R55E ?. 200,000 miles. Old oil was not red, kind of brown. It only took 4 quarts.
How serious is this? The body is bad and everything is worn out by owner who wants to sell me the car. I'm worried about finding a reliable place to flush it if necessary.
Do I have to flush it?
What sort of problem should I expect if I don't?
I have read these posts, but they don't discuss 45% incorrect oil. Total capacity is about 10 quarts.
Thats not gonna hurt ya abit. If anything it's gonna help you by flushing out that old burnt stuff. Just go have it flushed locally with Dexron VI or Mercron V and call it a day.
