02 explorer noise in the rear possible wheel bearing?
Hi well im new here and i dont have a new program for my Alldata at the shop and curious my Uncle says his Explorer has a noise like a wheel bearing in the right rear, and before i get myself into this anyone ever have this problem?
and has anyone ever done a rear wheel bearing on a 02 explorer?

Yeah, We've done a few here, and they kind of suck, but they're not too bad. Have to have a press to push the bearing out of the knuckle (independent rear end). Have also had a LOT of trouble with rear axle noise in these, too.

O so its not a Hub its a press on bearing type, i havnt heard the noise he is talking about yet but mybe todai ill take a listen, do you have a Alldata or mitchell or some kind of picture print out i can take a look at?

str--- the rear end is a hub unit, but it presses into the knuckle. its a little more complicated than a straight bearing/ hub replacement. you need a 20 ton press and a little deeper thinking and pay attention so you dont screw up the new bearing.-------- another idea is the 2002 have a tendancy to have gear whine in the back. normally do not hear at 30-40 MPH, but may be annoying at 55-65 MPH. You can help it by installing new synthetic gear lube with friction modifier addatives. that will help. if it squeeks all time at any speed-- its the bearing.
