o2 Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 2)

o2 Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
Hey Guys,
I had my SES light go on Friday Afternoon. I scanned it and it read o2 Sensor Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2). The guys at the AutoZone told me that this sensor is on the passenger side of the truck and is located on the exhaust pipes. I checked under the truck and found 1 on the driver side 1 on the passenger side and one by the Cat System. So i am guessing I have 3 02 sensor on my 1999 V10. I bought the replacement sensor and installed it myself. I cleared the codes after installation and just last night it came on again. I scanned it again, and it read the same problem o2 Sensor Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2). I erased the code and the SES light shut off. For a few hours I thought the problem was fixed. I went to my girlfriends house late last night for some hanky panky and the darn SES light went on again. The truck runs o.k, I know it is running lean because that's what the PCM tells it to do when there is a faulty o2 sensor. Is it possible that AutoZone sold me a dud of a sensor. Fred/Art, I need your help quick guys. I appreicate a quick reponse. I hate seeing the SES light on my instrument cluster it's annoying.

Thanks for the quick response. I was told by AutoZone but we all know how credible they are that it was located on the passenger side of the motor. They even showed me a diagram that had like 5 or 6 other sensors, but the diagram was not for my V10 it was for a V8. I know for a fact I have only three. Art, are you positive that on my 1999 V10 Bank 1, Sensor 2 is the one after the cat. Also, will i be able to use the same o2 sensor that I purchased from AutoZone. Please let me know. Thanks bud.

Bank 1 is right side (passenger).
Sensor 1 is the one right at the motor.
Sensor 2 is the one AFTER the catalytic converter.
On a single-cat vehicle, the one after the cat is Bank 1 sensor 2.

bank 1 is the always the same side of the motor where #1 cylinder..
In this case bank 1 is pass side and bank two means drivers side..
sensor 1 is always before the converter and sensor 2 is always after the cat.
you can have bank 1 or bank 2 and then sensor 1 or 2

Years ago I fussed with JUST replacing the suspected bad O2 sensor... seemed to always still give me grief
Once I gained a good understanding on how the sensor worked, the tight calibrations of them, and how the computer used the info I decided that once one proved to be bad (Usually between 45 to 80K miles) It was time for a new SET of sensors.....
I know this is an more expensive method but it has served me well over the last 30+ years of computer controlled motors..... I am also eternally grateful that this is a part the aftermarket stepped up to the plate and made....
Early O2 sensors on one of my low tech 1975 Nissan motors were in the $159.00 range and I needed 2 of them...arrrrgh! Same part in a auto store today is under $60 bucks.... much easier to swallow

You replaced the wrong sensor. Pay attention to the previous posts. You replaced bank 1 sensor 1. Sensor 2 is after the cat. Bank 2 sensor 1 is on the driver side. I just had to do this same repair last month.
