Question 1966 Wiring Worries

Ok guys, Here it is, I recently removed the front clip from my 66 f100 to replace rotted inner fenders. After replacing the front clip and replacing (from memory) the wires i took off, i found that my truck doesnt seem to be charging. i come to this conclusion because after i start the motor, i cannot remove wires from the battery without it stalling out. I also notice that my turn signal lights work by themselves, but when i turn my headlights on they go out. yet my turn signals work...odd...any helpful hints would surely be appreciated ...thx

Sounds like all grounds are not making good contact for starter's. Also if it dies after running when you remove your battery cable ( this is how I take your comment of remove wires when running) sounds like alternator shot as well.
Ground at voltage regulator; on front radiator support on drivers side; and grounds at turn signals etc; not making contact...

Look at the fire wall connections to make sure they are tight. I found out after I had my whole front end off I pulled the connectors apart just a tad and was testing parts left and right. I cleaned them off in a desperate attempt at finding something and that was exactly the problem on mine.

Your parking lights are supposed to turn off when the headlights are on. For your charging issue, I agree with the others. Check your grounds and your voltage regulator.

Nothing odd about it.

When the headlamps are turned on, the parking lights (turn signal lights) go off...that's the way the park lamps are supposed to work. Remember this is 1966, not 2006.

Upon closer inspection of my wiring, i found that one of the coils on the bottom of the voltage regulator is rotted in half, im not sure if that is causing my problem but i will soon find out when i buy a new one and replace it tomorrow, thx for letting me know that the turn signal lights go off when i turn the head lights on

To sum up my weekend, i replaced my voltage regulator, cleaned the contacts on the selenoid, and spliced new wire into the main black and yellow that runs from the selenoid into the ignition switch, as when i disconnected the harness from the firewall, it was so rotted that it easily broke. i now have a running, charging, 1966 f100 that lights. Thx for the help and advice, sometimes all a person needs is encouragement .
