what is the larget size wheel and tire combo that will fit on a stock 98 f-150 4x4, and the stock wheels are 17 inch. i am want a larger diameter wheel with an agressive tire. i am really liking the low profile off road tires. this is all new to me becasue i have a 68 f-100 that is on the ground. thanks guy, and if anyone has any pictures that would help too. thanks, tony
285's are the safest, some people have run 295's and claimed no rubbing while others have, 305's will definitely rub. I've run 285/70/17's with no problems but it is hard on the brakes and front suspension.
I could see how a truck could brake a little poorer with a larger tire on there, but how would a 2 inch overall diameter tire, be harder on the suspension?
Heavier tire, stiffer ride more surface area to turn all contribute. I broke 2 sway bar endlinks after going to 33's, since I've gone back to 265/70/17's I have yet to break one for one example.

One of mine broke when I put my 33's on...so I unbolted the other one and zip tied the sway bar up. Problem solved. Plus, there's a little more flex offroad...
I have 285/70/17 on mine. It's fine, no rubbing. It's 33". If I had to do it all over, I would have stayed with stock 265/70/17 as I lost about 1-1.5 mpg overall. Not that bad but lose around 25-30 miles per tank.
For you guys that lost mpg, was that on the highway, or in town? When I went with the larger tires on my truck, I gained 1-2 mpg, on the highway. In town I lost probably more then that though.
