Which DP tuner files to get?

Hey Everyone....

Am getting a 2002 F350 7.3L tomorrow and am planning on ordering a flip chip from DP tuners this week, but need some advice...

This truck is currently on 38" tires, but will soon be on 35s... it has the 4R100 auto, is 4X4.. I have a 3000LB trent trailer I tow maybe 10 times a year, other than that I dont often tow....

I am looking at these:

80 econo for sure!
60?80? tow?? which one do I want??
then either the 100 HP performance or the 120 race...????

Some advice would be great!!! thanks guys!!!

Bob

Take a look at my towing report with my new DP Tuner. I don't think anyone needs more than a 40/ 60 tow. Maybe the 80 econ is ok for the around town drivability, but anything hotter than that is definitely over kill unless you're interested in serious drag racing or dyno events.

I would skip the 100 and go up to 120. Doesnt seem like much difference between 80econ and 100 performance

I'd second hoseman, skip the 100 & go to 120. Jody at DP said the 80 econ acctually puts out just over 100HP additional. But if you want to feel real comfortable about it, call Jody he'll get you what you need! You won't go wrong with his chip.

I agree with above, I went with 60tow 80econ and 140. I figure if I am going to play with it above 80, go for broke.

That all depends on your HPOP. Only the strongest stock pumps can support the 140 tune. Many pumps struggle to keep up with what the 120 tune calls for. Or you could have bad luck like me. The HPOP on my truck is extremely weak, and can't even handle the 80 hp setting at WOT.

What I'm getting at is that if you have a weaker HPOP, you will probably not feel any additional power between the 120 vs the 140 settings. Currently on my truck I can only tell a difference between the 80 an 120 settings on the bottom end. When the engine revs up, the oil pressure drops and both settings feel the same.

I have:

High Idle
Tow
80 ECON
100 PERF

I only use the high idle and 100. The 80 ECON for me gives me nothing more than a louder engine.

so if you run the 140 on your stock hpop will it hurt anything? or will you just not feel the differance?
Im looking to get the 40 tow, 80 eco and the, 140. but don't see a new performace hpop in my foreseeable budget.

It won't hurt anything to run the 140 tune on a stock HPOP. You will get a lot of smoke though

If 3K is the most your going to tow, then 80 tow is going to be your best bet. 80 econ is a no-brainer. I like the 120 race stetting, the 140 seems to be very popular.

Yes i like the 140 setting when running through town. I tend to run on my modified "straight 80" program that Jody modified to eliminate the stock "tip-in" that prevents the smoke but gives the dead feeling to the pedal when you are at a lower RPM. Under moderate accel i can switch between 40-60-80-120-140 and feel a definite increase in engine noise/acceleration.
