Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out the firewall stampings on dad's 1951 f1. I posted a while back about his '49(we think) panel truck with great reponse. His '51 vin# is F1R1DL16996. I'm pretty sure I have the vin figured out, but I'm not sure about the firewall stampings. They are DLG C30 145. Thanks, Mark
Ya know, an australian gent posted about that very same thing a while back, except his didn't have a VIN anywhere to be found. Another Aussie had a similar stamp. I've never seen a US truck with anything stamped on the firewall. I don't think anybody ever figured out what they meant. Least yours has a VIN!

F1R1DL16996
F1 = F1 Conventional
R = 239 V8
1 = 1951
DL = Dallas Texas Assembly Plant
16996 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly
I'm clueless on firewall stampings, have ZERO references, sorry.
Hopefully Carl will jump in here - he can tell you the quirks of stampings by plant. He has been doing awesome research.
About half the trucks have firewall production stampings.
My best guess on this one is:
DL of course is Dallas assembly plant
G is probably paint code - how's Sea Island Green sound?
C30 would be date of assembly March 30th, 1951
145 is the truck number down the line at the DL plant
I had been meaning to write down the numbers stamped on the firewall of my 48 F-3. I finally did that today for anyone interested or collecting such numbers. The numbers are:
My 49 F1 came from the Dallas plant. I have the firewall stampings as well. I believe they are right above the seam in near the center in 2 rows.
7 D L 1 6 E
1 C O 4 (the "C" might be an "O")
Here is a how they were decoded on this site;
7 is the prefix for Meadow Green
DL is the Dallas assembly plant
16 day of the month
E is for May
Second row? I'd bet the 'C' is a 0 and would be the production # and is 1006
Vern's looks like Vermillion, assembled in Chester, PA on 22nd of June and is car # 326 down the line
I believe you've got it! It was still Vermillion when I bought it and the VIN agrees with Chester, PA., as the plant. It was almost built the same month and day as my birthday...June 21st, different year, of course. I'm a little older than it is.
