Red face Help needed: '41 Hood Catch

Hi friends,

seems that I have misplaced or lost the link between the hood handle and the safety catch. As it is a simple piece of steel with a hole on each end I would be happy if anybody can give me the dimensions so that I can duplicate it.

Furthermore I found a piece (I bought the truck partially dismanteled) which looks like a hood latch check, unfortunately I have no cloue how it works and has to be attached to the hood cross brace.
Can anybody please post or send me a picture or a scan from a body book on which I can see how to install that item.

gab.h add vo.lu

Thank's in advance, Gabby.

Ours is still packed away somewhere and I don't see where I took any pictures of that part of the disassembly.

Here's a link to Mac's Antique Auto parts online catalog. Click "Browse Online Catalog", then choose "Hood & Hood Part" from the drop down category menu and the year of your truck. The Hood Arm & Spring assembly photo may show the part you're looking for.

Hi,

tried the MAC link, they show a list of parts, but no sketch how they fit together. I do not know if the '41 had a hood latch check, it is only listed for the '40, but I have found such a part in the junk pile and the hood brace has a slot trough which the latch check must have been operated.

I is thinkable that either my '41 came with such a system or that a '40 hood was installed after a crash or so, after all the car is 65 years old and has been used and abused a lot.

Still needing some help.

Spend 5 hours yesterday repositionning fenders and adjusting grille, still not done hope that todays outcome will be acceptable, we're getting there, all it takes is blood, sweat and tears + and a lot of patience.

Best regards, Gabby.

Oooooops......just when you think you took pictures of everything BEFORE you dismantled ! I tore my '41 down last fall. Finally finished the chassis and will be doing the body this year. (Been distracted working on the '34 Chebby lately). All I can suggest is order the catalog from Mac's. They have line art type drawings of most of the parts. Good Luck !

The puzzle master

Hi,

yes, right, but I bought the truck as an abandonned projekt.

It was partially dismantled and in an incomplete status + got a bunch of loose rusty parts with it which I have to figure out what they are and how the have to mounted.
This seems to be a hoodlatch check.

And here are some unidentified parts, no idea if they even belong to the truck, help anyone?

The truck is a puzzle, some Frankenstein's Monster with lot's of parts recovered from other vehicles which makes it a one of a kind.

Best regards, Gabby.

I don't know anything about the first picture but the second picture are the brackets that bolt to outside of the front of the frame near the axle where the flexible brake lines are clipped into to connect to the steel lines. The large hole should be above the frame rail with a hole for the little protrusion and another for a bolt. Should mount at a slight angle. Look along the front outside of the frame for the predrilled holes on each side. From the looks of the photos in your gallery you probably already have something in place and don't need them anyway.
