Quick turbo help please! H2E or GT38?

Alright, I need to order my stuff ASAP, but have been getting conflicting information. I want a turbo to tow with at 400 hp, and no issues. Sound is not important here. My biggest concern with the H2E is smoke and spool time. Concern with the GT38 is excessive backpresure at high boost levels when towing long hills. I would like some feedback from actual users, especially low RPM smoke issue with the H2E. Looking at stage 2 with stock nozzles.

I got to Order my stuff!!

the h2e will be a touch laggier on the bottom end, but once your rpms are up near 1900- 2000 its very responsive and should pretty much clean all the smoke up with those stage 2's. I always had good luck with stage 2's and h2e while towing.

A possibility to consider is a GTP38R with a 1.15 A/R turbine housing. I know you are trying to save a bit of money on your overhaul. The turbo is $1600, the housing is $350, and the flange adapter is $100. So you're $400 cheaper than the H2E. Plus with the 1.15 housing, your exhaust backpressure is lower and you can run a little higher boost with your Stage II's. Beans sells the housing and flange adapter.

I will be running the 38r and the 1.15 housing very soon. I am running the 38r with the 1.0 housing and it works great with stage 2's

Turbonetics. I can't get it to surge no matter what.
My GTP38R was excellent and worked very well with my injectors. Until I pulled a load.
Loaded I couldn't keep the GTP38R from surging, and it's a costly rebuild.

considder that, GTP38R is not rebuildable turbo, so somthing goes bom! and you SOL, H2E on the other hand is , i was thinking about it, with my stage 3 injectors, but decided on H2E, ill let you know maybe next weekend, when i get to install it,
and H2E will never surge, and if you ever think of more upgrades you can always groe to H2E,
good luck FN

That's right Pete, I've never heard of surging issues of any king with the H2E.
My personal experience is with the GTP38R and the Turbonetics.
And yes, the 38R IS rebuildable.

Wound up going with the 38. I just hated the fact that with the H2E I "could" be chugging smoke on low rpm acceleration. And I don't plan to go crazy on the power, I want my $10,000 motor to last for a while. It was a bloody hard choice though.....

Did you end up going with the 1.15 housing?

I'm suprised you weren't considering the TN turbo too, since I saw it was mentioned.
