h2e or gt38r

i have a 96 powerstroke and i am wanting to do a turbo upgrade and i was wondering which turbo to run i am going to put stage 3 injectors in and was wondering if i went with the h2e would i need a modified h2e or would the stock one hold up to the injectors, and was wondering if the gt38r would handle stage 3s the parts for the sd turbo is not a problem to get almost got everything for free just need pedestal and driver manifold, i figured with a new 38r and the other two parts new i can be sitting around 1600 to 1700 but with the stock h2e i am looking around 2400 and up i am trying to go as cheap as possible but still have a turbo that will hold up and last also if i go with either of the turbos will my down pipe work with it or will i have to find a differnet one. and if i go with the 38r were can i find a turbo manifold like the banks one for the 94-97 powerstrokes for the inter cooler.

Well, Basically forget about the 38r. But if you do decide to go with it, you'll need the early '99 spyder pipe.
As for the H2e, even the moddified version probably isn't large enough. I'm not sure on the downpipe issue.
Travis should stop in later today. He knows alot about aftermarket turbo options.
He will ask you how much power you want to make. That's the starting point for choosing a proper turbo so you need to have a clear idea of what you want to do.

I think I'd look into bigger chargers than the ones you mentioned above. If your going to be running stage III sticks, spending $2000 is a drop in the bucket when it comes to everything you will need to support that level of fuel.

I'm partial the 50 series holsets are you can easily get larger compressor housings if power increases are in the future. I don't think thats an option for the h2e or 38r?

Well I guess it all depends on what your going to do with the truck. Also, where are you getting these said stage 3 injectors? To make a long story extremely short, there are tons of different options for injector setups on these trucks so saying just stage 3 would make me think about a 238cc hybrid injector w/ 80% nozzles. for that, a GTP38R would be fine, but a modded H2E would be even better. it's all going to depend on how you set it up. If you go with a bigger nozzle on the 238's, modded H2E all day long. Of course as most guys know here I lean towars the S400 series turbos instead of the Holsets and Garrets, but I'd take a Holset over a Garret anyday. The 38r seems to have surging problems sometimes.

Farm, both the 38r and the modded H2E are 66mm chargers and will run 238's just fine, but the modded H2E will run a little bit bigger nozzles like 100% better than the 38r. 250cc injectors might need around 71mm so you could mod the H2E to 71mm or get a GT4294 or a mid sized S400. I guess it'd depend on nozzle size. some guys run a 66mm turbo w/ 250/100's.

True. True. A set of hybrids would fit the bill better.

I know several guys that love their schwitzers on to 5.9's.

Travis, what size injectors would you recommend for a 71mm Phat Shaft with .91 A/R?
