So...what are you asking? I think you want to know what kind of clearcoat to get. Based on that, lightly sand the body with 600 grit and spray some rustoleum clear on. Repeat.
Just so you know, rattle can clear is tricky. I have been able to do well on small parts, but when I cleared my whole truck, it came out awful. I have years of experience with spray, but if you don't, you might not like the results.
It is like spraying water and hoping it doesn't run- and too light leaves it grainy. When you are spraying, as soon as it looks shiny move on.

thanks...wasn't sure if polyurethane was the best choice, that's all.
I've clearcoated wood before LOL....
will it make the stickers peel off the shock body?
ocd? :-) I checked you out and didn't see any pics of your rig...just engine. you could remove the stickers and get some paint from por that would make them look like their gold plated. The shock will rust on the inside of the cylinder unless you treat it as well...then stain whatever is on the outside.
rattle can clear has a very low solid count thus the poor result when using it over a large surface- i'd apply numerouse light coats with intermittent flash times- kind of like old lacquer; but not.
not sure what i was thinking, but didn't get ployurethane....
I got clear enamel....hope this works!
figure i need to (?) scuff with 200 grit sandpaper, then 2-3 light coats? or will that make them look like crap, scuffing the paint that came on them?
