The neighbors son has a 99 4WD Ranger with manual tranny that the front hubs won't engage when 4WD is slected. It has the switch on the dash for 4WD.
It appears that the tranfer case will lock up when 4WD is slected on the switch, but the hubs don't transfer the power to the wheels. It has the "automatic hubs"
Is this a common problem on the Ranger? How difficult is it to fix or tear apart to see what is wrong?
It is a very common problem on the 98-2000 ranger as they use a pulse vacume hub system. An easy cheap fix, is to to get the AVM manual hubs from tellico 4x4, they cost around 99.00$. This will fix it once and for all and do away with the pulse vacume hubs.
