Keeping front hubs locked?

Is it ok to keep my front hubs locked in and the switch in the 2wd position for everyday driving? Only reason I do it is because in auto it doesn't always go into 4wd.

Yeah but it may cost you a bit in mpg. I lock mine in when I'm near mud or snow, but leave them unlocked other times. Reminds me I have to unlock them haha. Stupid mud.

AlaskanEx, claims he has his locked in all winter... We all know he drives like a nut, says no problems.

I had an issue last year and had to drive from Tennessee to south Florida with them locked, I lost an average of 2 mpg.

You should service the hubs, if they work once in a while your chances are good that lubing will take care of that.

Service the hubs?? Thought all I had to do was change the gear oil in the axle?

I've had the hubs locked it for 3 years now. Mpg did go down. But my wheels have PITA center caps on them.

There are a few threads here that show you how. Maybe someone will chime in with a link.

It's very easy to do!

On a side note Should I keep the stock hubs or go to warn?

Tons of people have gone to after market manual hubs here. I have heard the warn hubs are better quality than the mile marker.

I got 154k miles on my oem before I replaced with new oem. But that's just me.

Definitely do the hub/needle bearing service once a year! Guzzle is a great source:

Welcome to guzzle's 4x4 Needle Bearing Maintenance Web Page

If you keep the stock hub locks serviced they'll be OK (if you like the ESOF).

I run mine locked all winter as well...never know when you need to engage 4wd at a moments notice

I engage mine every month to keep everthing working smooth. But only need to use 1 or 2 weeks per year (winter vacations). Really don't have a need down here. Although sometimes it gets so hot down here the blacktop feels mushy.
