Driving home from work today I smelled something like bleach in my 1998 Explorer Limited. I looked down to see my message center was out, my temperature guage above the rear view mirror is out, my turn signals don't work, and my rear fan does not work. Also. the temperature read out on my main panel switched from F to C. The only electrical work done recently was a recall wiring on the speed control. Any ideas about what caused this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Gremlins, get the truck sprayed for an electrical gremlin infestation... :-P
Seriously thou.. did you check your fuses, I guess its possible that something may have gotten knocked loose while the tech was doing the repair, but id go the simple route and check your fuses first, alot of time the same fuses controls like 10 diff things
Now why it smells like bleach... you got me... *shrugs*
Fuses were my first thought...odd it would knock out so many things at once..is it possible it is a fuseable link??? I don't know...will check with a Ford mechanic friend of mine in the morning..I think the smell is possibly some component of the system frying out..Thanks for the response. Tim
Turns out it's a board in the message center. Ford wants over $400 for a new board!!! Anyone now a good place to buy Ford parts without losing an arm and a leg???? Thanks, Tim
Check e-bay or your local scrap yards. Also, if you want to buy new I believe there is a guy on here that sells OEM Ford parts for a discount to members.
