I have a 91 Bronco with a 302 EFI engine, along with changing out the rear end gears, I was thinking of replacing the heads. I've heard about putting 351 Heads on a 302 Block, in fact I've heard it's easy. However, I have not heard anything about 351 heads on a 302 with fuel injection. If I do this will I benefit in the power department? What manifold (Upper & Lower) can I use? Or should I not even bother? Also, any other mods you can think of would be greatly appreciated.
The heads are interchangeable, and it should be a very easy swap. The dimensions of the heads are the same, but I think they use different diameter head bolts, and probably flow better (or at least some). You may encounter some problems with the fuel injection if your airflow changes, but I wouldn't think it would be enough to cause a problem.
Well, you dont really gain much by putting those heads on the 302. After the 74 heads, they are virtually the same casting with the same size valves. they only drilled out the bolt holes for the 351W to 1/2 instead of 7/16. You will need special head bolts from Summit Racing that will convert you over. Your fuel injection will be unaffected by the change because you will be changing almost nothing. For the time you are about to put into your truck, you will be a lot better off to go with something aftermarket.
You would still be able to use the 302 upper and lower. the 351 intake is NOT an option as they are dimentionally very different from the 302. Other than the larger Head Bolts, all the bolt patterns are the same. If you want to speed the truck up a little, go with some aftermarket heads, cam and of course headers. GT40 intake cant hurt either.
