wheel shaking during braking

So my steering wheel has decided to shake a little back and forth (about 1-2") when I am braking, coming to a stop, at or below 20 mph.
First I was thinking rotors but then I remember the pedal is supposed to pulsate when your rotors are warped. I just got new tires over a month ago. No shaking at other speeds when not braking.
Any ideas?



96 Ford Bronco, 351, 4" Pro Comp lift, 33 12.5 15 BFG all terrains. 10" alcoalikes wheels.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Aug-02 AT 03:42 PM (EST)]The pedal only pulsates when the rotors are warped? When I had this problem even my Bronco vibrated. It drove me crazy! I would brake at low and even high speeds and my steering wheel would shake back and forth.

I would still check rotors, and wheel balance. I had some vibration also before and it was 3 of my wheels were off balance. Although, they should have done that when you got your new tires.

The only other things I can think of are a possible bad front end alignment and/or worn radius arm bushings.

On a GM this would be the idler arm in the front end, not sure on a twin I-Beam but you might check the stabilizer shock (the one that runs horizontally along the front of the suspension). It is probably whatever part it is on the front end of a twin I beam that holds it from horizontal movement (anybody?).

well I know you can add the steering stabilizers, but they don't come stock on the Broncos. I added a Rancho on my 83. It was kind of a cheesy setup IMO because it u-bolted around the tie rods. I was never sure if it slipped a little, but I did notice it helped off road in rocks that would grab the wheel. I guess having one would hide this problem I'm having.
I think I'll make those tire guys rebalance the wheels since you never know how good of a job those punks do. It's free anyway. If that doesn't cure it, full on brake job and bearing repack.

Anyone know if you can have the rotors turned without removing the speed sensor gear from the back? If you have to remove it (3 jaw puller the trusty manual says) do they have to be pressed back in or is it the old wood block and sledge press?
