I have a leak on this truck I just bought and I can't see for sure if it is a fitting or what but I can see the fluid coming out. There is a metal tube that comes from the back of the trans to the front of the trans about 1or2 inches under the top bolt on the passenger side that is where the fluid comes out. Is it a flare nut or compression that might need tighting. What size wrench? I guess it's the stock trans with a 352 eng.
Thanks, Tom
Are you sure that it is tube? I know there is a vent on the casing of C6 transmissions in the area you are describing. The only lines on a trans will be the cooling lines and a vacuum tube. Check the routing of the lines to make sure your cooling lines are in fact hooked up just to be safe. Check the fluid level of your trans with it in gear and someone on the breaks. Chances are that it is overserviced and you venting excess fluid.
If it is the original transmission it will be a heavy duty (whatever that means) Cruise-O-Matic or COM. It will not be a C-6.
The best way to tell if you do not have a C-6 is to look at the case. The C-6 case is cast as a single piece, whereas the COM (and a few others) have a separate front bell housing which can be unbolted from the rest of the case.
Once strange feature of the COM was the cooling. Instead of running transmission fluid through steel cooling lines to a separate tank inside the radiator, they ran engine coolant to a small box on the side of the transmission. Maybe this is where you are leaking?
I have heard that there may have been a retrofit or repair for this later on, but I have not seen one.
There is no engine cooling going to the trans the PO put a trans cooler on the front of the rad. It is a metal tube that is leaking under the top bolt passenger side and it must be the heavdy duty com because the trans and bellhousing are seperate
Good, now we are on the right track. (It it had been a C-6, the tube in that position would be a vacuum tube, and should not have transmission fluid in it.)
You say "top bolt passenger side" - does it look like the previous owner's installation, or a factory location?
Is this bolt a transmission to block bolt? Or at another location such as on the intake or exhaust manifold?
Thanks.

I got the tubing out , once I removed the exhaust I could see it clearly. There is a crack in the tubing where it enters the trans. hope to fix it tomorrow Thanks, Tom
