1946? Fire Truck w/ pic

We need help determining the year of our truck. http://www.geocities.com/johnstownfire/46ford.jpg
www.geocities.com/johnstownfire/46ford.jpg

I have read info on other posts to check the clutch housing (after removing tranny cover) and near the steering box on the frame.

There is a rumor that this truck may have been built during the war and that our dept had to get congressional permission to purchase the truck (it does have a green dashboard), wondering what your thoughts are on that.

Also wondering the payload of this truck.

thanks in advance for your help
Ian

The first digit of the id plate will identify the year, ie 1940 = 0, 1941 = 1, etc.

Just a quick note, I found the registration from 1967 on the truck, it states the year of the truck to be a '44. As far as checking the numbers on the frame rail and clutch housing go, the frame rail has the primer motor for the fire pump mounted on it, and I haven't had a chance to pull the tranny cover.

thanks again,
Ian

This body style was used from 1942-1947. The dash is most likly Village Green as that was the only color availible for many of those years. Likely the trim on the grill and other trim is cream under the red paint. More than likely this was not built as a military truck as it has parking lamps in the fenders. these were not on the built for military trucks. Hope this Helps. I have a 46 MH4x4 Ford pickup in restoration, and am looking for MH maint manuels if anyone knows of any please let me know. thanks
