Does anybody out there have a picture of the dash on a 1946-47 mercury truck? I need to know exactly where the die cast Mercury emblem goes on the dash. Thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Feb-02 AT 00:29 AM (EST)]They first made a Mercury truck in '46, only about 5,000 made. Body metal was the same as a Ford, but had a lot of chrome. I just bought a whole mess of Merc trim from a '46 1/2 ton. Check out www.mercurypickup.com for some pic of Merc trucks and there you can find some pics of what the 46-47's looked like.
How much extra trim did you get? I've been looking for a good grille section.. When I lived in Canada I bought a '39 1 ton that had a Mercury grill. At the time I never thought any thing of it, but now it makes me question the '46 date! The mercury name tag was vertical thru the center of the grill. I'm using a '48 bed on my 45 and havwe a mercury tailgate for it.
I got all the trim on the hood (2 big chrome side pieces that say 'MERCURY 1/2 TON', the dash piece that says 'MERCURY', the hood latch on the front of the hood (same as the Ford), and the two pieces on the front of the hood on either side of the latch. I'm getting anohter part for the grille right under the hood that says 'MERCURY'. Got a good deal on it all, how could I pass it up? Didn't get the grille since the truck was smashed hard on the grille. I'm keeping my eye out for one though.
Yes, it's true the mercs were made from 46-68 for the Canadian market. That mercurypickup.com is a good site and you might also want to try socp.net for more merc pictures.
