!949 M-47 Mercury at Auction

I found a twin for my 1949 M-47. Look for it at WWW.RALEIGHCLASSIC.COM Click on inventory, page 5 ,the 1949 M-47 Mercury truck and then more details. There are seven pictures that give me an idea of what my truck might look like when I'm done. I have a question about one picture. It shows the interior from the passenger side. Can anyone tell me what the item is on the dash between the speaker grill and the guages ??
Thank you for your help.

Well, I'm a long way from being done. I've got my fenders and running boards off and I'm working with an old bodyman. I'm getting lots of practise sanding!! Put some fill on then sand it off!!
I was curious mostly52f1 about the item on the dash because I have an empty hole on my truck in the same area.

I went back and checked again and I'm 100% sure it is a start button, the key only turns the power on but not directly to the starter. That's my story and I'm sticken to it,lol
John..........and yes it is a very nice truck, that Mercury monteray on the same page is a real gem too but to nice for what I'd like to do with it, lead sled.

No, it's not the starter button cuz it's over to the left of the steering wheel and light switch. I just looked through my '48 Mercury stuff and nothing. I'm really stumped by it.
And thanks mostly52f1 for the restoration link. His starting point was rougher than mine !!

I do believe they did, I know the 53 had one too, 53 may have been the last year. It may also have been a 6 volt thing as well.

As you say there is a starter button on the left side but it is the same type button that is to the right as well, maybe he's using it as a horn I didn't look at the other picture as you directed to the one showing from the passanger side shot

my dash was stock when i got my truck, and i didnt have that... just two big round gauges, one was speedo, the other had 4 gauges in it. nuthing beside it exept radio panel. if you look at my dash now in my albums, you'll see what i've done to it. but when i was welding everything up i never came across any previous modifications done to the dash. wierd..... oh well.

That is not a stock button. He must be using it to momentarily operate something, maybe the horn? I emailed the auction company to find out what it is used for.

Yeah it must be something that was added. I just went out and checked out my cab. And I screwed up. I've got 2 holes between the speaker grill and guages!! I felt in behind and they were drilled out and rough. So still don't know what the auction truck item is but definately not a factory piece.
At one time there were running lights mounted on the cab so maybe that explains my 2 holes?? I think I'll weld them up when I get to that point. Thank you everyone for your insights.

Yeah, that's a favorite spot to install light switches, very handy spot. My dad mounted a half dozen switches in that spot when he used my truck for his service station back in the '70s.
