what kinda oil do I use???????????
This might kinda sound dumb, but I am new to these ole trucks,I have a 47 ford truck ,and I want to know what type of oil should I put in it,it is a flathead V8 .I have had corvettes all my life so I know all about them, but I am going into a area that is new to me.
My wife and I went for a ride in my 47 tonite and we LOVED it!!!!
thanks Bill B
Factory operator manual recommended 30 WT in summer and 10 WT in winter. This was non-detergent oil.
If your engine is clean, modern detergent oils won't hurt anything. I'm running 10W40 in my '48.
The only danger comes if you have a dirty engine with lots of built-up sludge. Using detergent oil will break loose lots of crud that can plug up your oil sump and starve the engine. If you go this route, be sure to change oil regularly and frequently and also clean the sump screen - which means dropping the pan if you don't have the large cleanout. Keep an eye on your oil pressure.
Otherwise, use non-detergent oil.
Enjoy your truck!
