Here is my question for everyone today. I have a 1945 Ford 1/2 ton pickup and i am wondering how the heck you replace the glass on the doors of the cab. There is a small panel by the door handle, but you can really get at anything from there. Can someone help me?
Also does anyone have some cheap spare parts for a pickup from 1942-1947? I fairly easily find parts from dealers, but they are usually too expensive.
Thanks
Dustin

I think you drop the window down into the door rotate 90deg. and slide back out the wondow slot. What parts do you need? I am making one truck out of two, don't have any engine or tranny stuff.

How do you get the window out of the mechanism? i dont know what to call it, but thing that makes the window go up and down. :-)
What year of pickups are you putting together?
Im mainly looking for things like, the middle hood trim piece that contains the hood latch. And new taillight assemblys, grill bars, and the piece that goes on the spot to cover the hole in the cab that the clutch and brake come into the cab from.(i hope you understand that) and the piece of metal the goes directly under the engine, part of mine rusted off. Thats all i can think of right now.
Im working on taking the engine apart, all i have to do is shove the pistons, values and camshaft out. I dunno how hard its gunna be, cuz they are quit stuck.

I think you have to remove the regulator mechanism (the thing that makes the window go up & down) If it is like the later Fords, there is a spring clip on the rollers on the bottom of the glass that has to be removed. My two trucks are 46 & 47, don't have any of what you are looking for.
There is a new hood latch for sale on EBAY, search "1947 Ford".

The cabs on from '40-'47 are all the same basic cab, except for the COE cabs. The difference between the bigger trucks and the 1/2 tons is just where the floor is, so basicly you can get that piece for the floor from any cab from '40-'47. Good luck!

To get the window mechanism out do this: Undo the screws holding the windo regulator to the door. They are located behind the square metal panel in the middle of the door. There should be four screw holding it. Be careful, because when you loosen the screws the window and regulator will drop down. Helps to have and extra set of hands to hold it all up. Then you can just reach in and slide the arms out of the tracks at the bottom of the glass. And like previously mentioned, the glass comes out by turning it and pulling it up through the window opening. For taillights, check any old Ford parts shop, they should carry them. The grille bars can be bought new from the same kind of shop. But they only come in chrome. Most originals I've seen are pretty beat up. I can check and see what I have as far as that little cover that goes around the pedals. I've parted out a few of these trucks, and still have 3 myself, and my Dad has one as well. I'll see if I have any covers left. As far as the panel under the engine...it'll be tough to find. Of all the 46 and 47's I've bought, I've never seen one still have the cover. I'd try eBay, and try some of the guys advertising in Hemmings. The center hood latch piece you're looking for can be found on eBay every once in a while, and usually not too expensive. Sorry for the long response, but hopefully some of this helps.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Nov-02 AT 05:31 PM (EST)]Looks like I don't have any extras left. I thought I may have had them left over from a '46 I parted, but guess not. Yes, all I have are 2 '46's and a '47, my dad also as a '46. But my '47 does have the front sheetmetal off a '45. '46 seems to be the most popular, with something like 75,000 half tons made for the year. '45 still was on an allocation deal (had to show a need for a new truck) in order for you to get one.
