Hello friends
Can someone tell me ,back in 1947 if the ford truck came with a front license plate ,and if it did what does the bracket hook to. And also where did the rear plate fit on the back of the truck?
It all depends on what state the truck was registered in. Ford didn't control the plate requirements, the states did. The front bracket is a 42-47 truck specific bracket, and is not available in reproduction. They don't seem too easy to find, maybe since most states at the time didn't require a front plate. I have one of these fairly rare brackets, came with one of my '46 pickups. The bracket attaches on one of the bolts tha hold the bumper to the bumper arms. The rear plate is attached to the 2 screws the hold the tail light to the bracket coming off the stake pocket on the bed. They are generally mounted on the driver side light, under the special tail light that had a lens in the bottom of it so the plate could be illuminated in the dark. The rear plate bracket is available in reproduction form, from just about any old ford supplier. I believe it's the same from 28-56 for trucks.
