Hi Guys, need a little advice. I got a 52 M1 with a rotten cab and i need to know if the whole F/M series of cabs will fit. You know F1 - F? thanks in advance
The cabs are all the same through the different size models. Of course the '48-50 are different that the '51-52 but will still mount on any of the five years. The mounting designs are the same, just the dash boards and rear windows are different.
The front glass won't interchange between the 48-50 and 51-52 cabs. The mint `51 windshield dad found for my `50 Mercury was a half inch too wide (dammit).

That's strange, I am sure the windshields were the same. I have the stainless trim from a '51-52 Five Star cab on my '49. Also, the windshield rubber is the same number for the '48-52. I have never measured the openings in any of the '48-52 trucks I have had, latest count is 16. I wonder if some miscut the window for some reason. Was your truck ever altered that you can tell?
No alterations at all on my truck. The windshield that was too wide was sold to a local guy and it fit his `51 Ford pickup no problem. My truck is a Mercury but that shouldn't matter. I'm pretty curious about this now. I'll measure the opening tomorrow and post it.
Bobby.. it sure has me scratching my head. It sounds like my truck is an oddball. It's been around for 56 years so I suppose anything is possible, but as far as I can tell the cab was never hacked up or modified in any way. It was a typical beat up old Alberta farm truck in it's former life.
Bob.. I see you build panels for a living. One of the hats I wear at work has 'SCADA' on it.
Sometimes when a windshield is replaced there a little out of spec and fit extremely tight.
I had that on a 51 I bought. It had been replaced and the newer piece had the retainer clips smashed out of the way and the old gasket had been boogered up but it was in the truck and by the looks of it a long time in there.
I layed it over another glass out of a 51 and it was bigger on the edges. Just some glass installer/cutter out there made it fit.
They should all interchange.
There are some other detail differences between 48-51 and '52's; do a search on this subject, there was a good thread on it about a month ago. For instance the way the inner fenders attach to the cab/frame.

I also have the SS trim from a 5 star on my 49. Bought it that way in 1977.
Haven't managed to measure my windshield opening yet. Can one of you guys tell me what it should be? Also, where should I measure mine so we're using the same reference points?
Here's my website URL. Got some pics of the Mercury posted there.
