Has anyone put a FE engine in a 292 truck??

I am in the process of purchasing a 1962 F100 4x4. I have a 390 originally from my 72 F250 and we just rebuilt it not long ago. I want to do the conversion and put in in the 62 4x4. I know a lot of people have made the conversion over the years, but can you remember all you had to go through to do it? I have found a engine conversion kit from Trans-Dapter that allows you to insert a crossmember that will let you bolt in the FE engine, but it also states you have to install a 4 qt. FE Car oil pan, something I'd prefer not to do, if I can help it. So if anyone has made the conversion into a 1964 or earlier pickup I would be much obliged to hear what all you went through to do it! Thanks. ~Shaun

Y Block Conversion
Hello Pcmenton,
I have been working with the 61-66 models since I was 15. The FE was an option, but unfortunately not until the Twin I Beam suspension was introduced in 65. The 1964 and prior used completely different supsension and therefore Ford didnot offer a conversion kit themselves. It has to come aftermarket near as I can tell from my research on this model and from my own experiences. Even though they ran the same bodystyle from 61-66 the 61-64 are almost completely different than the 65 and 66 models. Thanks for your input. ~Shaun
