9"s were used for 1/2 ton trucks. My 61 weighs 4200# empty. I've crossed the scales at 7200# bed full of topsoil, had the suspension bottomed out and went 15 mi. at about 30mph without breaking anything. I've carried 1500+ many times at freeway speeds without problems just leave some exrtra stopping room. I'd guess you could haul around that 1500# in a trailer with a 9" axle without getting into trouble. What is the toungue and receiver rated at? What are the tires on it rated at? Those will be your limiting factors. Rich
The trailer is a 59 or a 60 Ford F100 frame, with the stock 9" axle and 2.5" wide leaf springs with overload springs. I don't know if the overloads are factory or not.
I know it weighs 900 pounds, and I have had the trailer loaded to 5500 at the most, with I'm guessing 1000 pounds of that being tounge weight, according to the scrappers scales. I know thats probably way over the load limit of the axle and the springs, and I'm guessing the tires too. There just Load Range C, 31x10.50-15's.
I have about 7500 pounds worth of engine blocks I'm going to take to scrap, and I'm afraid to put them all in the trailer, in fact I'm not, just because I know thats WAY over the limit. Like I said I have had it loaded to 5500 pounds gross, but if thats way over the axles load limits I'm afraid of doing even that again. Last thing I want is to shear an axle off or bend the tube at 65 mph down the highway
So anyone know what the weight capacity of the axle is?
Hey Mike what year is the green extended cab in the picture it looks to be 84 to me. It's the nicest looking extended cab of that era I have seen.

Thanks, but up close you will see the flaws. Still ain't too bad for factory a paint job though. Its a 79 F350 4x4 with the Lariat package.
Its out of comission right now getting the interior all redone, after that its going to be up for sale if I have the will power to put a for sale sign on it.
