Roof Racks for a 2007 S-CREW

I am looking to get a F-150 S-Crew with either a 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 foot box. I want to pull a trailer, and carry a canoe and kayak up top. What are my options. The ladder racks seem too short for a 16 foot canoe.

Look at Yakima or Thule. As well, may want to look at the Go Rhino truck rack products.

I did look at the Yakima, Thule and Rhino racks and am concerned about the length of the canoe on the racks. Does anyone use these racks? Does anyone use any type of rack on the cab roof as well?

With the box only 6 1/2 feet long, that means that the canoe will be hanging over the cab roof a ways. I would rather have a bar up there as well.

If it is secured shouldn't really matter. But if you want that extra security, you could go with the Go Rhino in the bed and a Yakima or other on the roof.

I've seen a s-crew with adjustable commercial racks. You know, the racks that hold long ladders or siding ect. They are adjustable because you can extend them to the length that you want or if your not useing them you can slide them to the back of the cab. The rail system is on the top of the bed walls. I have the screw with a Z series cap and am thinking of a Baha style rack that mounts to the top of the cap and the cab. Then I would install some KC's on the front. Good luck.

I can't say anything about Thule or Rhino, but Yakima is rock solid. I have Q-towers on the roof of my 04 scab and an Outdoorsman on the bedrails. This setup is the best way to carry my 17' kayak. Yak is a good product. I have driven across the country and back with two kayaks strapped to it, and it also made it through hurricane kat without so much as pad on the fairing coming off.

Yakima Outdoorsman truck rack / Q Towers half pack is a good canoekayak rack system

A really good system is to have one crossbar in the truckbed and the other crossbar on the cab roof. This way you can really spread out the crossbars and have a really sturdy platform for carrying long stuff like a canoe, kayak, ladder or lumber etc. Yakima Racks probably makes the best solution. Get the Yakima Q Tower Half Pack system for the cab roof, just make sure you get at least the 66 inch cross bar if you plan to carry a canoe and kayak at the same time. Then get a pair of Yakima Outdoorsman 300 truck rack towers that mount to the truckbed siderails. You'll also need to get another 66 inch crossbar to attach to the pair of Outdoorsman 300 towers. You can then connect the Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack to the crossbars for transporting the canoe. Yakima has several different kayak rack models for you to choose from that connect to the crossbars. The Yakima Hullraiser kayak rack is a good option if also carrying a canoe because it uses up less crossbar space for carrying a kayak so you have enough room on the crossbars for both the canoe rack and kayak rack.

Check out the TracRac system. It has the sliding racks on the bed, and you can get a cantilever extension to carry longer items. I have the system without the extension, and carry 14' lumber without a problem (6.5 bed). They sell kayak mounts for the system, and it carries 1000 lbs. Both racks can slide right off when not in use.
