One more question!

What's involved in replacing the camshaft (I don't have a service manual yet)?

Again, TIA!

It looks very easy! One of the few times it's handy not having a cross-flow head I guess.
It doesn't seem that many have much experience with this cam that have chimed in.
After searching it seems many people like the Crane cam I'm looking at so I might do some before and after dyno pulls to share!

I've heard it's a good all around cam. Changing it isnt hard at all, just remove the V-cover, rocker arms, push rods, tappet cover, lifters, harmonic balancer, timing cover, and it's there...pretty much. For the most power potential, get a Cloyes gear set, they are adjustable from -4,0, and+4 degrees of cam timing. Only cam experience with a 300 I have is a Comp 268 in my nephew's 72. It has a nice choppy idle, but broad power band.

Don't forget that the radiator and AC condensor have to come out to change it. And the cam gear is a PITA to remove from the cam.

I suspect that not many have chimed in because this cam has been discussed a lot lately in other threads.

Before you pick your cam you need to finish the head work you were talking about in the other thread. You can't make a completely intelligent cam choice without knowing what the head does.

SS: I'm not so sure I need to even bother with the head. This truck does nothing but haul my race car around and most of the time it sits at 2200-2500 RPM.
Let me change out the cam, quantify the results and go from there.

Have this cam in my [just rebuilt] 300 and it's working great. No real "lope" to the idle quality but it's obviously not stock. Note that this cam has +5 degrees of advance built-in to negate the -4 degrees of retard the factory timing gears give you, so no need to buy the expensive [~$86] adjustable timing set.

If you have the OEM fiber timing gear get the standard Cloyes all metal gear set. Think Autozone has it for just $39. It's worth it to pay a machine shop to press on the cam gear for you. It's beyond a tight fit, even if you do the common trick of heating the gear. The crank gear goes on-off with no problem using a common puller-installer tool, same with the balancer.
