My truck came with a chip already...I know its down by the emergency brake...Im trying to find out what kind it is and the best way to safely remove it without causing any problems...I want to see if there are settings on it...What its set at hp wise and if there are better ones out there...It was installed in 2000 so im figuring I can upgrade it for the amount of towing I do.

If it is a hard chip, pop the hood and loosen the 10mm bolt in the middle of the long rectangular wire harness. Keep turning until the plug is loose. Look at the kick panel, I can't remember if it was 8 or 10mm but two more bolts that you can see and another bolt that is above the bracket hold the ECM in place. Remove bolts and ECM. Now set the ECM down on a flat surface and pull chip off.
The tripower chips are similar, but western diesel's kit also had a few ball bearings in certain vacume lines and a wire harness that went some where.
A hard chip will not have settings, Tri power chips will, but they usually have another wire harness wired in and a switch mounted on the dash.

Yep, the first time they are installed is a pain because of the cosmoline on the terminals. Once you scrape all of it off, remove the factory cover and reassemble the computer you can reinstall it. Someone has already done that work for you, so you just need to pull it off and cover the opening.
