AC not getting cold in idle and a bit cold when driving
Hi everyone.
Last problem. 01 expedition
My AC does not get cold in idle or when Im not moving. In addition know it seems like its not getting very cold when Im driving.
I have added freon (or what ever it is know) and the gauge says that it is full. This was done with a do-it-yourself canister of freon purchased at Autozone. Maybe I didnt put it in right (took forever, not even sure if anything went in)
One thing I have noticed is that the compressor (fly wheel on the engine) clicks on and off all the time. It will go on for about 5 second then shut off and repeats.
Your compressor may be shutting itself off to prevent overheating due to low refrigerant?? If you've given it the ole' college try, it may be time to have a pro look at it.
Nope. "Short cycling" is usually just low refrigerant level.
The low side-only guages are pretty worthless to determine correct charge, you need to be able to see the high side simultaneously. Kind of like having a brain surgeon with an eyepatch... You wouldn't want that...

If your can was freezing up on you, you may want to wrap a warm, wet towel around the bottle next time you attempt to add refrigerant.
