Apparently this is a common problem when I did a search, but want to make sure the fix is the motor actuators??? where do I find these and are they costly? can I do it myself kind job?
Yes you can do the job yourself. The actuator motor assembly is about $30 to $40 from the dealer. I have replaced both actuators (temperature control and the directional-floor-or-overhead ceiling vent).
I did it without removing the inside plastic panel. The plastic tray snaps in from the top. With the tray out you can access the Temp control actuator. You can also push the cup holder out of the side panel from the backside and then working thru the two openings gain access to the directional door actuator. My arms were sore from squeezing in thru the openings but I think it was worth a little pain versus removing the whole rear-inner-quarter-panel plastic and possibly breaking off some of the plastic anchoring tabs.
I had to turn on the ignition and have one of my kids rotate the temp and directional control ***** to line-up hte bolt holes to mount the actuator back onto the ac ductwork in the side panel. The cup holder and tray just snap back into place.
