ULSD, will it hurt stuff?

When this stuff comes out, will it damage anything on regular diesel engines? If so, what are we supposed to do?

I filled up with it on Wednesday. No problems thus far. Runs the same.

The new engines coming will not be able to use high sulfur, older diesels can run either fuel.

Yeah, but i thought the sulfur was a lubricant of sorts, so i was wondering if that would affect anything short or long term.

I'm no engineer, but the sense I'm getting is that the vendors or suppliers are supposedly going to put various additives in the ULSD to ensure lubricity, etc. I don't know if there is going to be a wide difference in the makeup of the fuel at different stations, but I plan to continue using additive at least for the cetane boost and will keep an eye out for how the extra lubricity will play out.

Did ULSD cost any more than the regular LSD? I have not seen any here on the East coast yet.

From what I understand (and I might be wrong), the sulphur is not the lubricant in the fuel, but the refinig process used to make the ULSD strips the lubricating properties out of the diesel. I read on the net somewhere that they have the refining process to where it doesn't strip the lubricating properties out as much as it used to. But the refiners still have to make the fuel meet the lubrication specs required by the government fuel standards.

I am not going to worry about it, but then again, my fuel already has an additive package in it from the distributor. Once my rig makes it to 100,000 miles, I think I am going to make the switch over to bio-d. By the way, 2% (B2) bio-d will give all the lubrication you need.
