It shouldn't be over fueling in the econmy tune. What year and when does it lay down the smoke. Mine will only lay it out when I first spool up at the track with extreme tuning.
They actually stopped making the 1704. It is very possable the tuner doesnt agree with your truck, It has happened before. The 1704 on the performance setting only makes a little smoke. I think its only 99hp. The Economy tune shouldnt show any smoke or very little.
DOes it run good and strong? If its running like a scared rabbit....I say enjoy the smoke show and rock on. If its not running good, or the engine is louder than normal, the injector timing may be wrong. I dont care what brand you buy, there are always a few corupted files that will get out the door....but usually you know right away that something is wrong.
Reave 1,
I have the 1704 installed in my 2003, and have for over two years. I have always pulled some black smoke when I lean on it just before the turbo spools up, but that is usually followed closely by a big grin .
I don't worry about it, so have fun.

This gentelman is refering to the truck set at economy. I guess the guestion is how much smoke is a mountain of smoke to this fellow. If it hides the car behind you on economy then I would think that is a little much. Have you talked to Superchips? If its a lot of smoke the injector timing may be wrong and not giving you a good burn. There may not be anything at all wrong with it, but If your not happy I would call the manufacturer.
I am using the economy setting on a 1706 and get a black huff once when I step on it, right before the turbo kicks in--and the truck takes off. So far, I have viewed it more as an indicator that the 1706 does it's job.
I will be a liitle more specific to help you guys see if I am really having a probelm or being a nervous nelly. The truck pulls hard and runs like a raped date so there is no audible and visual mechanical problems. The concern is when my foot is to the floor the truck has a trail of black smoke behind it. Second when I hit it from a dead stop the turbo spools up and burys the car behind it in a cloud of thick black smoke. Other than those two times it runs clean and mean. On occasion though with the a/c on and low rpms if I pedal it slightly it will lightly puff black smoke out. Now thats the best description I can give without inviting you for a spin( which would be fun!!) but if any of you can at least calm my nerves let me know..
Thanks
I've never seen a Economy setting blow black smoke. Nothing that would cause the car behind you to be scared they might run over your crankshaft in the next 100 yards anyways. Do you have any gauges? If so, and your gauges tell you everything is ok then roll with it. I think you'll be ok. One thing you could do is un-tune the truck, disconnect the batteries for about 20 min. and start over.
When the truck gets spooled up and uses the fuel it dissipates quickly, it seems like the thickest smoke occours when the truck is experiencing turbo lag.
