I recently had a oil leak comming from some seal in the front of the engine, got that fixed by the dealer, and coolant blowing from the cap, tech said it was a bad cap. For the last week, pretty sure it has been since i got my truck back, I have noticed my truck blowing blue smoke, good bit of it, when i start it up when the engine is cold. It isn't cold here, at least 70 when i start it. It is also still loosing coolant from the cap. I have a SCMT and MBRP Trubo back. Is any of this connected? What could be the cause here? Thanks for all help.
i would say a head gasket is leaking...blue smoke equals oil...blowing coolant is either a bad cap...like in my instance or a blown head usually. do you notice any coolant out the exhaust?
I would recommend trying a different dealer. Most every technician (and a lot of owners) know that coolant loss from the degas bottle is almost always a sure sign of head gasket failure.
The egr cooler is probably the source of the smoke. Are you sure the smoke isn't more white than blue? I have seen white and black smoke come from 6.0l engines, but haven't seen blue yet.
I'm pretty sure that it has a blueish tint to it. It does the same thing when it is cold out, below freezing, and i start the truck. Are there any other signs of a head gasket leaking that maybe i can look for? Thanks for the help.
My 05 blows blue smoke on a cold start up all the time. Doesn't matter if it is summer of winter. Sometimes it will continue for a solid 3-4 minutes. Dealer says its bad fuel. It is embarassing and stinky.

Do you have any mods, or is it stock? Definitly smells though
I had similar problem with my 05' f-350 dually. Several dealers(5 different) tried to solve the problem with egr valves, injectors, etc. Finally, one stepped up to the plate and removed the cylinder heads, they found them warped. They replaced both the heads. Since then fuel economy has gone from 10.5 to 18-20mpg and all the cold starting issues (smoke, bucking) are gone. It just sucked to have to pay payments on a 45K vehicle for 10K miles when it ran like crap. Whenever Chevy builds a truck with a real sized cab I'll sign on the dotted line.
