This Is my 1942 FORD GPW project, This is a actual Ford Jeep same design as the *****'s MB as the blueprints were shared for the War effort and smooth production time.
On the Ford their are F-marks on almost all the parts and the earliest models in production had Ford script on the rear. Even though it was considered a Jeep Jeep's of WWII were considered trucks not auto's.
That's a neat project. I think you may be the first one in this forum to have an old Ford jeep. What kind of plans do you have for it? By the way, the pug makes a great hood ornament.
Sorry for the late reply man, been busy working on my 1962 Ford M151 pre runner project.
Their is a moderator who insists on telling me that my 1967 Ford M151A1 is a Jeep and it is not.
It has similar looks but is way different from a Jeep.
IFS and IRS no Jeep has that!
The Grill is side to side not up and down and it was built by Ford, not *****'s, not Kaiser, or AMC.
It does not require front hub lockers and is 4 speed not 3.
I said to Jo Wilker, why would I post a Jeep on a Ford web page?
The only Ford Jeep is the one I have posted here and one older model the GP.
As *****'s and Ford shared the design on the contract to build these vehicle faster during WWII.
The M151 series was also a shared contract, *****'s did build some as did AM General under AMC, but Ford had the contract control and built 85% of the M151's. The ones built by the other companies wer lease building only.
I drove one in Nam in 67-68...... SCARY! The motor sargent took one and turned it all the way to the right and stepped on the gas......at 8mph it rolled gently onto it's left side! You could actually see the rear wheel turn under when it rolled! Was very carefull driving it after that.
Herb, I dont spend a lot of time here...I prefer G503. I think the last time I logged in here was in April. I think that the number of people on this site that know what a GPW is could be counted on one hand.
